Sé: "To be"
The verb to be is used to identify a person or an object.
1. Mwen sé yon chat - I am a cat.
2. Ou sé yon doktè - You are a doctor.
3. Li sé Afwiken - S(he) is African.
4. Nou sé zélèv - We are students.
5. Zòt sé kanmawad - You (plural) are friends.
6. Yo sé fwè - They are brothers.
7. Sa sé yon djab - That is a devil.
8. Tig sé yon kalité zanimo - Tigers are a kind of animal.
9. Annette sé yon bèl fanm - Annette is a beautiful woman.
10. Jean sé papa-i - Jean is his father.

Whenever the verb "Sé" appears at the end of a sentence, it becomes "Yé"
1. Nou konnèt ki moun nou yé - We know who we are.
2. ki koté mwen yé? - Where am I?
3. Ki lè i yé? - What time is it?
4. Sa sa yé? - What is that?
5. Sa i yé? - What's up?
6. Sa i yé, i yé - It is what it is.
